Blake Mycoskie is the founder and former CEO of Toms Shoes, a socially conscious company known for its "One for One" business model. Mycoskie started Toms in 2006 with the goal of providing shoes to people in need and helping to improve their lives.
Before starting Toms, Blake was no stranger to starting businesses. In the 90’s Mycoskie founded a laundry business that offered free pickup and delivery service to busy college students. Initially aimed at Southern Methodist University (SMU), which lacked an in-campus dry cleaning option, Mycoskie's EZ Laundry business grew to employ over 40 people and serve three universities, generating roughly $1 million in sales. In 1999, he sold the company to his partner. The business was successful, and it helped him develop the skills and experience he would later use to build Toms.
Mycoskie is known for his entrepreneurial skills, including his ability to identify opportunities, his creativity in solving problems, and his passion for making a positive impact in the world. He is a natural leader who is able to inspire and motivate his team to achieve their goals.
One of the key skills that has helped Mycoskie succeed in building businesses is his ability to understand what people want and need. He has a knack for identifying unmet consumer needs and finding ways to meet those needs in innovative ways. For example, with Toms Shoes, he saw an opportunity to provide people with comfortable and stylish shoes, while also helping those in need by giving a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair sold.
